In extruders, the materials to be processed are usually fed continuously to the screw from above via a hopper.
Other components can be fed into the screw barrel via side feeders. In plastics processing, these are, for example, so-called masterbatches or liquid colors (colorants), reinforcing fibers, anti-aging agents or plasticizers.
Torques from 3 Nm to 550 Nm per shaft
Double augers are used in the side feeder. As with the extruder, the screws are configured as required by the raw material.
Customized gearbox designs from the VG series were developed to drive the side feeders. This type of gearbox drives two worms. The output shafts rotate in the same or opposite direction, depending on the requirements for feeding or draining. An integrated thrust bearing ensures that the worm back pressures are absorbed.
Gearboxes in the form of shaft-mounted gearboxes or helical bevel gearboxes in a compact design are used as a preliminary stage or primary reduction gearbox. The motor is connected via a lantern and a flexible coupling.
